Chile's State Visit to Sweden under way

It's the first time that a leader of her country has made a State Visit to Sweden and it all started with that most royal of travel plans, a carriage ride. President Michelle Bachelet of Chile was making history as she began her three day trip and she did it in style

Michelle Bachelet had no sooner touched down in Stockholm than she was swept off to the Royal Stables where she met her host for the next few days, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and then headed off in a truly regal carriage for a ride through the streets of the Swedish Capital.

They headed to the Royal Palace where Queen Silvia, looking bright in an orangey red suit and pillbox hat, was waiting to say hello.

The President of Chile and the King of Sweden inspected a guard of honour before meeting more dignataries and taking the time for a little walkabout then it was inside for another photocall as Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel and Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip left their little sons in the royal nursery and headed out for a quick chat with the special guest.

The afternoon was spent in political meetings before the guest of honour joined Sweden's King and Queen for a visit to Fryshuset which supports young people and encourages them to develop skills and build careers.

Things were set to take a turn for the glittery in the evening as the King and Queen of Sweden are due to host a State Banquet for their guest. Take this as your tiara alert and get ready to sparkle.
