The Royal 2016: a prince is born

To Victoria a son, to Sweden a prince. Oscar Carl Olof, Duke of Skane was born on March 2nd 2016, third in line to his country's throne and one of the most famous babies in the world from the moment he arrived. 





The prince's birth was announced late on March 2nd with his very happy father, Prince Daniel, giving an emotional press conference and Sweden's newest royal baby headed home with mum. dad and big sister Estelle early on March 3rd. A Te Deum was held hours later with Daniel and Estelle there.




Hours later, his proud grandfather confirmed his name to a special cabinet meeting. Oscar shares his name with two kings of Sweden while previous Dukes of Skane have included his great, great grandfather, King Gustav VI Adolf, from whom his grandfather, Carl XVI Gustaf, inherited his throne.


Oscar made his balcony debut on granddad's 70th birthday when his proud mum showed him off amidst the royalty of Europe gathered in Stockholm for the celebrations.

Oscar was christened on May 27th 2016 at the Royal Palace Chapel in Stockholm with the future King of Denmark and the future queen consort of Norway among his godparents.
