A chapter in history closes

It has been an historic visit and today the once seemingly impossible chapter of the British-Irish releationship that was a State Visit to the UK by the Republic's President comes to a close.  President Michael D Higgins and his wife, Sabina, have spent four days at Windsor Castle as guests of the Queen and as they bade her farewell today the success of the tour was clear for all to see.  It was history with a friendly face.

The end of a successful chapter - Sabina Higgins says goodbye to he Queen at the end of the Irish State Visit

The Queen and the President seem to have got on famously and the rapport between them was clear as they stood amidst the splendour of Windsor one last time to say goodbye.  This State Visit has changed much.  Another chapter written and done, leaving its influence to extend through time.
