A photo for the history books

At the end of an historic day, an historic photograph.  The official picture of the Queen with the President of Ireland ahead of the State Banquet paints the visit into the history books.  Speaking to her guests at Windsor Castle the Queen recalled the long past of the walls in which they sat, telling them that the first fortification had been started by William the Conqueror almost 1,000 years before and it had taken almost ten centuries for its halls to welcome an Irish head of state on an official visit. Now that moment has come and, as President Higgins said, while the countries had lived in the shadow and shelter of each other they were now crafting a future of hope.  The sentiments and emotions expressed by the two heads of state were caught forever in one simple photo which passes into the history books as a memory of a truly significant day.

One moment in time becomes the image of a truly historic visit that will be remembered for many years to come
