The prince and the premier

Prince Frederik of Denmark missed out on the chance to join the selfie club started by his country's prime minister, Helle Thorning Schmidt, when he attended a handball match with the premier.  The two sat next to one another to cheer on their national team but the future king and the current prime minister got through the match without snapping themselves enjoying it.

No selfies here, thank you.  The Prime Minister and Crown Prince of Denmark at a handball match at the weekend

The prince and the premier were at the opening match of the European handball championships which are being held in Denmark over the next few weeks.  Last month, Helle Thorning Schmidt became an international name after she was seen with David Cameron and Barack Obama, posing for a selfie at the funeral of Nelson Mandela.  There were no homespun snaps this time round, just lots of Danish flag waving and plenty of cheers as the home team ran out winners against Macedonia in their opening match.  And if Denmark makes the final perhaps Crown Princess Mary (on her way back from a trip to Myanmar when this game was played) will do a Michelle Obama and find herself a seat between the two of them - just in case that selfie bug starts to bite again.
