Letizia faces her new role front on

After the excitement and spotlight of Queen Letizia beginning her first overseas solo tour since hubby became king, it was down to work on day two as she toured a number of projects around Honduras to see co-operation work between that country and her own. And as she made her way through a packed agenda, the queen seemed to be facing her new role front on and enjoying every second of it.

The first full day of her first overseas co-operation visit began with a meeting with international representatives in co-operation work. This gave Letizia a chance to hear about the wide range of work going on in the country and the role of Spain and other countries in supporting it.

Then it was off to see a free legal clinic at the Autonomous University of Honduras that offers support to people who have been victims of violence. A lot of its work involves giving legal assistance to those who have been made homeless as well. That was followed by a reception at the Spanish Embassy for co-operation workers.

The afternoon saw Letizia head to Comayagua where she learned about a long term project to help restore and preserve the cultural and historical life of the area. And she visited a training school which offers opportunities to young people from the very poorest homes to help them get the education and experience they need to compete for jobs.

At her side throughout the whole day was the First Lady of Honduras, Ana Garcia Hernandez, who had greeted Letizia at the airport on her arrival and who has been with her royal visitor throughout. Thanks to her, a lot of the queen's visit has been shared almost instantaneously on social media and she has taken great care to underline the work Letizia has seen and her words on it.

The final stop in Honduras was at a project to provide clean water and good sanitation which helps almost 50,000 people.

Following that, Ana Garcia Hernandez accompanied Queen Letizia to the airport for a formal farewell before her royal visitor made her way to El Salvador. Letizia is due to spend two days in that country as her tour continues. She was met at the airport there by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jaime Miranda.

And thirty six hours in, this big debut for the queen seems to be going well. She has been very high profile, seen a wide range of projects and enjoyed a popular reception on all her stops. This kind of visit was the preserve of Queen Sofia for many years and Letizia is reported to be keen to follow in her footsteps. Only time will tell how that has gone but the initial signs are that Spain's new queen is facing the role front on and has plenty to smile about.
