Prince Carl Philip of Sweden is 36 today
The usual birthday traditions have been followed with the Swedish Royal Household placing a photo on its website and, in a modern twist, inviting those who want to wish the third in line to the throne a Happy Birthday to head to their Facebook page to do it. But there is just as much interest, if not more, in the fact that as this prince marks his birthday he also enters the final countdown to his wedding.

Carl Philip and Sofia marry on June 13th 2015 at the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The ceremony starts at 16:30 local time and wellwishers will get a chance to see the bride and groom as they take a carriage ride through the city before a 21 gun salute. Lots more information about the wedding will be released in the run up and in the past few days the Royal Household has set up a special webpage to keep the world up to date on the big day and added some brand new pictures of the prince and his fiancee for good measure.

There are even two special hashtags for social media as the final four weeks to the big event count down - #kungligtbrollop2015 and #royalwedding2015.

On the day he was born, Carl Philip immediately became heir to the throne of Sweden but lost that role to his big sister Victoria just seven months later when a law change meant the eldest child of the monarch succeeded regardless of gender. He is a prince with a very special place in history, all of his own, but the 36th anniversary of his birth was about more than remembering that. It's the day the preparations for his marriage, the royal wedding of the year, entered their final phase. May 13th 2015 is one month...and counting...
