Diana stars in Buckingham Palace's summer opening

Her former home, Kensington Palace, has been celebrating her life all year and now another royal residence which played such a major role for Diana, Princess of Wales is putting her centre stage, too. Buckingham Palace will have a special display on Diana during its summer opening this year as the twentieth anniversary of her death approaches.

The room about Diana was announced on the eve of Buckingham Palace opening its doors for another year. It's caused huge excitement, offering the chance to view previously unseen items from Diana's life.  They will be displayed in the Music Room at the Palace, where Prince William was christened.

They will see a special display about Diana including items chosen by her sons, William and Harry. The exhibition is based around Diana's desk from Kensington Palace where she answered correspondence for many years.

Also on display are some of her favourite cassettes including music by George Michael, Elton John and Diana Ross. There are lots of photos, too, of her with her boys.

Reminders of Diana's packed life dot the exhibition which features a travelling trunk from her childhood, marked simply 'D.Spencer'. But it is her own children who dominate with images of William and Harry everywhere.  They have brought their mum back to Buckingham Palace.

There is a theme every year when Buckingham Palace opens its doors and this time round its gift giving. Some of the many presents that the Queen has been offered during her 65 year reign are on display at the Palace. The 250 selections come from over 100 countries and include gifts from State Visits as well as presents from official trips around the UK.

The Queen's London home will be open from 22nd July until 1st October this year and hundreds of thousands are expected to visit.
