It's been the month of the updo. Maybe it's all the hats, maybe it's the warm weather but it's hard right now to find a royal lady that hasn't shown us a stunning swept up hair moment in the last month. As June comes to an end, here are 8 great royal updos.

Considering Kate loves to wear her hair down, this month has been a revelation for Cambridge watchers as the duchess has displayed a long run of updos. From Ascot to garden parties to summer evening galas, Kate's hair has been all but permanently swept up. But the best of the lot has to be the side bun worn with a gem of a hat at Trooping the Colour 2016. From the pretty pink flower to the sophisticated sweep of hair, this was a fabulous updo and an all time classic look.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden's stylish swept up locks put the final chic touches to a modern masterclass in royal dressing as she attended the Polar Music Awards. The column dress was all about the embellishments and the strong, piled up hair made sure we all focused on the frock. Fabulous.

Queen Maxima's fifties style dress needed fifties style hair and her chignon based styling suited everything about this look to perfection. Folds of hair piled into a neat bun with a side front parting is pretty hard to wear but Maxima makes it her own and then some.

Crown Princess Mary has shown off some cracking updos this month but the best has to be the swirling sophistication of her side bun worn for her debut at Royal Ascot. There is so much work in this it must have taken hours to do but the result is well worth it - Mary's hair is a winner all the way.

Queen Letizia added this elegant updo to an uber chic pink outfit for the presentation of the Spanish flag at a ceremony in early June. The understated chicness of this swept up styling adds everything to the outfit. Letizia looks lovely.

The Countess of Wessex wore some cracking hats to Ascot and her blue effort on day two was up there with the best of them. Her hair is cleverly interwoven and swept up too to provide the perfect base for this marvellous piece of millinery. From the neat folds to the pretty tucks, this is a dream of an updo but then Sophie has had a supremely successful style time in June.

Princess Claire of Luxembourg piled her long hair into a chic swirl of curling knots during National Day celebrations. It was the perfect look for the crisp white trouser suit and took elegance to another level.

And we're back to Kate. Well, the Duchess of Cambridge has had so many updos this month it would be a shame not to see more of them. This loose but lovely look was chosen for an evening reception in Norfolk and paired with a rose gold dress that sparkled its way into the best dressed list of the year without even trying. Kate looks great with her hair swept up - but will June's trend continue into July?
