Harry keeps his promise

Prince Harry presents Elizabeth Marks' gold medal to the team from Papworth Hospital - as he promised he would

It was one of the most moving moments of the Invictus Games and now Prince Harry has kept a special promise made to one of the athletes there. He handed over the gold medal won by Elizabeth Marks to Papworth Hospital, the place that saved her life.

When Elizabeth Marks claimed one of her golds, she stopped Prince Harry as everyone left the pool and asked him to take the medal back. He looked surprised and then she explained she wanted him to give it to Papworth to say thank you for saving her life in 2014. The prince was left momentarily speechless but he made a promise and today he made good on it.

Accompanied by the Duchess of Gloucester, who is the Royal Patron of Papworth, Harry welcomed staff from the hospital to Kensington Palace where he handed over the gold medal.

It was another moving moment, a legacy of the Invictus Games that clearly mean so much to the prince, and a special time for the hospital which said it was extremely proud to receive such a special gift. And it was proof, if any was needed, that this prince will always keep his promises.
