Royal Ascot 2016: Ladies Day

The Queen on Ladies Day at Royal Ascot 2016

After all the excitement of debuts from Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and the Duchess of Cambridge on day two of Royal Ascot, we then had to get through Ladies Day. And while there weren't quite as many royals to see on day three, there was still plenty to enjoy.  This is Ladies Day 2016.

After two pastel based outfits at the start of Ascot 2016, the Queen went for a bold and bright colour clash for Ladies Day.

Her blue coat sat on top of a blue and orange print dress with an orange hat with blue trim. Angela Kelly's creation showed just how to mix bright colours and score a style triumph. Marvellous.

The Countess of Wessex also added orange to her outfit for a look that is a total winner and then some.

Sophie looked stunning in her white cropped white jacket top, flared Fifties style skirt and quirky hat. Everything about this works - it is chic, crisp and top class.

The royal ladies had all clearly talked before setting off for Ladies Day as Princess Beatrice had chosen orange as well. But the success quota was starting to run out at this point.

heavy dress appeared to be a different shade of blue from the crown of her pork pie style hat and once we'd added in the messy up do we got, well, a bit of a mess. Beatrice needs a chat with granny about making colour clashes work.

Princess Eugenie had more success with a navy and pale pink dress and hat combination.

The fluid shape of the dress suits the princess to perfection while there is just enough shell pink in the hat to add the light touch a summer day needs to this dress. All rather chic.

The Princess Royal showed pale was the way to go with a lovely, light look on Ladies Day.

Princess Anne chose a pastel blue coat with matching straw hat with a feather detail perfectly paired to the strands of gold in her outfit. A total winner.

Princess Michael of Kent provided a masterclass in elegance in her pale blue creation.

We had a cape coat, a contrasting dress and a hat that was made for Ladies Day. Pure class at Royal Ascot 2016
