Sweden's dancing King and Queen

Stand by everyone, the King of Sweden is about to throw down some moves

Maybe it was a night off from baby duties that did it but the Swedish Royal Family was so happy they literally danced out of the Polar Music Awards last night. Carl XVI Gustaf started things off with his consort, Silvia, more than happy to join in. Meanwhile, their children, Victoria and Carl Philip, looked on in surprise before deciding to join in. It was the night of the dancing king and queen.

Legend has it that Abba's Dancing Queen was written for Silvia Sommerlath as she became a consort with her marriage to Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf. Music history shows the song was around a bit before that but the hit is still linked to her name. And last night, she lived up to its title, waving her flowers in the air as she left the ceremony in the dancing footsteps of her husband.

In two days time, the couple celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and the party is well and truly under way. The Queen of Sweden, in bright blue last night, will also be marking four decades as a consort - Silvia Sommerlath became a queen on her wedding day.

Crown Princess Victoria usually wows at this event and this year was no different as she sparkled in silver and white.

Princess Sofia also went for white as she attended the ceremony. The silver shoes added a touch of silver although the newest princess in Sweden's royal house seemed the most unsure about joining the dancing, giving us just a few steps before holding her husband's hand and dropping things to a more sedate stroll.

But Sofia might have to get her dancing shoes ready as the big wedding anniversary approaches. There are high hopes for a photo of the King and Queen of Sweden with their five grandchildren to mark the event but one thing is sure. As Carl Gustaf and Silvia celebrate 40 years as man and wife, they are in the mood for dancing.
