The Queen is to miss the church service at Sandringham on New Year's Day as she continues to recover from a heavy cold. The announcement was made this morning in a brief statement.

The Queen wasn't able to attend church on Christmas Day as she was recovering from the same heavy cold which also delayed her departure for Sandringam for the festive break. The Duke of Edinburgh had also been poorly with the same virus but recovered enough to lead the Royal Family to the Christmas service. The latest announcement said that the Queen did not yet feel ready to attend church and will continue to recover indoors. Other members of the Royal Family are expected to attend the service which starts at 11am.
