The Duchess of Cambridge turns 35 today so in honour of her special day, here are 12 special photos of Kate from the past 12 months. One from each month, here are a dozen duchess delights to celebrate this big birthday.

January saw Kate taking part in a simple ceremony in Norfolk marking the centenary of the final withdrawal from Gallipoli. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were at a service led by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh commemorating the anniversary.

February included a day in Edinburgh where Kate indulged her love of sport and took part in a tennis workshop run by Judy Murray, mum of Andy and Jamie. Kate donned a tracksuit and did some racket juggling and looked like she loved every minute.

March saw Kate trying on clothes in a charity shop. The Duchess of Cambridge opened the new EACH shop in Holt, Norfolk and topped the day off by modelling a trilby she found on its sparkling shelves.

April was all about the big tour of India and Bhutan and one of the most memorable moments came at the very end as Kate accompanied her husband to the Taj Mahal where William's mother, Diana, had so famously posed alone in 1992. The couple sat on the same bench, together, in a poignant photo.

Kate's got involved in a big campaign in the year since her last birthday with Heads Together launched by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry to help change the conversation on mental health. After the informal announcement, including Kate in a headband, the official launch took place in May with the three royals meeting many of the charities involved in the campaign. Sport as a way to help mental health problems was on the agenda - cue Kate in boxing gloves.

June was all about the Queen's 90th birthday with Kate taking a major role in the three days of celebrations in London that month. At the 2016 Trooping the Colour, she carried Princess Charlotte onto the Buckingham Palace balcony for her official debut there.

At the end of the year it was announced that Kate was taking over as patron of the All England Tennis and Croquet Club as the Queen passed on several of her patronages to younger members of the Royal Family. The Duchess of Cambridge had got in plenty of practice for her new role by attending several days of Wimbledon in July and was in the royal box to see Sir Andy Murray claim the title for the second time. Cue tennis faces.

It was cake faces in August as William and Kate headed for Luton and tucked into some homemade treats during their stop at the Youthscape charity in Bute Mills. The Duchess of Cambridge had already done cake cutting duties before getting down to the serious business of butter cream and icing.

September saw Kate and William head off for their second major overseas tour of 2016. This time, George and Charlotte accompanied mum and dad as the Cambridge family headed to Canada.  There were some special snaps of this foursome as they enjoyed a children's party in Victoria at the end of the month.

The Duchess of Cambridge made her first overseas solo trip in 2016 as she travelled to the Netherlands for a day of engagements in October. There was lunch with King Willem-Alexander and a trip to see one of the most famous paintings in the world for this art history graduate. The duchess with the pearl earring was picture perfect in front of Vermeer's masterpiece.

Kate met her match in a cat in November as she attended a film premiere. The Duchess of Cambridge was at the debut screening of 'A Streetcat named Bob' and the star of the show stole the show as Kate bent down to say hello. Perched on a velvet cushion, this cat wasn't for turning. Kate grinned and bore it.

December ended with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge taking their children to Bucklebury in Berkshire for Christmas with Kate's parents. It was the end to a family year and the start of a party season that ends with Kate's birthday on January 9th. Happy Birthday....
