Books were opened in Stockholm for people to write their good wishes to the new prince and his family and many came to share the excitement of a royal baby. Many of the congratulations came from children who welcomed Prince Oscar to the world.  There was also a 21 gun salute at noon to welcome the prince to the world.

Among his first visitors had been his uncle, Prince Carl Philip, who was snapped making the trip to the Karolinska Hospital in Solna in the hours after the birth of his nephew. Princess Madeleine also visited mother and son in hospital and posted late the same night on her Facebook page to say ''Congratulations to my sister Victoria and Daniel with the birth of their son!'. And throughout today she shared updates including his name and an image of the family at the Te Deum held just after noon.
