Queen Mathilde signs the guest book at Liege as the German State Visit comes to an end

The last day of the visit started in the same way as every other, at top speed with a lot to pack in. The royal couple and their guests, President Joachim Gauck and Danieal Schadt, headed to Liege where they visited EVS Braodcast Equipment and got a little rest as the day began with a sit down on a very purple sofa.

Mathilde was in bright red - an elegant dress with pleating and an unusual and rather stylish hat. Daniela Schadt chose an elegant white and black jacket with black skirt. As the day came to an end and things got very formal she added a matching hat.
But there was a lot to get through before that official send off. In fact, there was one more official welcome, this time at the Bishop's Palace in Liege where the sun shone and everything had a brighter, more spring like look than the ceremonies of the previous two days. After speeches and signing there was a balcony - can't beat a balcony appearance - followed by a spot of lunch.
Then it was off for a round table discussion at Eupen after a mini walkabout. And the talks were only just finished when all four headed off for another walkabout.
And then it was time to say goodbye. The three days had been packed with visits to Brussels and Antwerp, a State Dinner and a night out at the Palais des Beaux Arts in the Belgian capital. This State Visit was a success and has left plenty of right royal memories for years to come.
And there is a special page about the two State Visits this week here.
