More royal tributes following the Brussels attacks

There have been further tributes today from Royal Families across the world following the terrorist attacks in Brussels on March 22nd which killed 34 people and left hundreds more injured. And the King and Queen of the Belgians led their country in a minute's silence this morning - a commemoration observed across many other parts of Europe at the same time.

The Belgian monarchs observed the minute's silence at the European Commission. Standing at their side was the Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel, the Prime Minister of France, Manuel Valls and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker. 




First thing this morning, King Philippe with Queen Mathilde travelled to the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht to meet medical staff looking after some of those hurt in the blasts which hit Zaventem Airport and Maelbeek Metro station at rush hour on Tuesday morning.

They visited some of those injured in the attacks and also met members of the security services and military helping in the rescue and follow up operations.



In Madrid, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain visited the Belgian Embassy in Madrid to sign the book of condolence there.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark's message of condolence, sent to King Philippe on March 22nd, was also released. The Danish queen, writing in French, sent deepest condolences and said her sympathies, and those of her husband, were with all those affected and the Belgian people.

The Queen has sent a message of condolence to the Belgian King and people as well. In it, she said she and the Duke of Edinburgh were deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of life and sent sympathies to the royal couple, those mourning and ''all those in Belgium affected by this terrible series of events''.

Messages of condolence poured in from royal families around the world in the aftermath of the Brussels attacks and on Tuesday evening, King Philippe addressed the Belgian people on TV.
