She is the successor to one of the most famous princesses of the 20th century, following in the footsteps of a woman whose adult life began on the silver screen and moved on to the gilded world of royalty. Princess Charlene of Monaco paid tribute to the mother in law she never met when she attended the Princess Grace USA Foundation awards in New York looking every inch the film start herself.

Charlene was at the event, held in New York on October 24th 2016, with her husband, Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The royal couple mixed with other big names including hostess for the evening, Naomi Campbell, and Queen Latifah, at the ceremony which honours up and coming talent in the arts industry.

As guests arrived, they were reminded of the stellar career of the princess whose name was all around them. Images of Grace, the Oscar winning actress, were projected around the room.

Charlene, paying tribute to Grace's Irish roots with a dress featuring shamrock embellishments, gave a short speech at the event.

Charlene and Albert are regulars at the event, which recognises emerging stars in film, theatre and dance. Their appearance in New York is the first time we've seen Charlene for several weeks after a quiet end to the summer. But she made sure everyone remembered this appearance, filled with the glamour of old Hollywood.
