Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has been hurt in a trampoline accident

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has hurt his neck in an accident involving a trampoline. The Royal Household announced this morning that he wouldn't be attending an event celebrating the country's Olympic and Paralympic stars because he was injured.

It's understood that Frederik damaged a cervical vertebrae while trampolining at a private gym. Doctors say it will take several months for his injuries to heal and he will wear a neck brace for the next twelve weeks.

The Crown Prince said he was sorry to miss the reception which was hosted by Queen Margrethe II and attended by Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. Crown Prince Frederik had been a high profile supporter of the athletes in Rio.

The official communique about his injury said it shouldn't affect his schedule going forward.
