Nicolas of Sweden

His name is Nicolas. The little prince born at the height of a golden summer for Sweden's royals will bear that name along with one from each of his grandfathers as he makes his way through life. As he turned two days old, we found out that Madeleine's son is Nicolas Paul Gustaf, Prince of Sweden and Duke of Angermanland.

The announcement was made after a cabinet meeting when King Carl XVI Gustaf let everyone know what the fourth in line to the throne had called the new sixth in line to the throne. And he also shared Nicolas's ducal title with the world.

Nicolas is an unexpected choice but then so was Leonore, the name given to his big sister when she was born 16 months ago. And Angermanland was also a surprise - it's never been a duchy before and this northern part of Sweden known for its mountains and fjords now has its very own duke for the first time.

Paul was the name of Chris O'Neill's late father while we all know what's inspired Gustaf. It's a name with a ring of modernity and plenty of tradition - just perfect for the latest prince of 21st century Europe.
