Royal wardrobe, part two: Queen Maxima

Queen Maxima went through a pretty impressive amount of clothes in the week just gone and all thanks to another royal State Visit. The King and Queen of the Netherlands made an official visit to the USA and Maxima brought the wow factor to just about everything she wore. It all started with a fabulous cream and black trouser suit for her arrival where she and her husband met think tanks at a meal at the Dutch Ambassador's residence in Washington.

Queen Maxima starts as she means to go on in America, looking great

The biggest day of the tour proved the biggest clothes challenge for Maxima as she had to dress for a visit to Arlington National Cemetery and for a meeting with Barack Obama at the White House. Her monochrome combo dress with crownless silk hat was about as perfect as it got. It looked smart, respectful and dignified as she and King Willem-Alexander paid their respects at Arlington.

Ok, the leather gloves were a bit odd but it still worked. The handwear had disappeared by the time she and her husband met the President of the United States.

It also proved to be spot on for her final engagement that day, the launch of the Global City Team Challenge, when we got a closer look at her jewellery - some pretty impressive pearls and just enough rather sparkly diamonds.

Maxima is consistent in giving us a good dose of her national colour, orange, in her outfits and for her time in Michigan she was back to her zesty best with a bright jacket and matching shoes paired with a beige silk effect fitted skirt. We say it every week but there are some things only Maxima can wear and an orange peplum jacket is right up there with the best of them. How shes does it is anyone's guess but one of the hardest royal wears ever looked just great on her.

For day three in America the royal couple headed to Chicago and Maxima was all white as she paired a cute bolero style jacket with a dress in the same creamy shade and topped it off with one of her very own sort of turban hats, this time in pale brown.

And just before they left the US, Maxima spent some time at the 'Group of Friends of Financial Inclusion' meeting going on in New York. She ended her time in the US as she started, looking stunning in cream. This time it was a two basketweave effect skirt and jacket which just screamed cool on a hot day.

So two queens down, plenty more to go as the Royal Wardrobe enters its most epic week for a while. Check out Queen Letizia's choices here and check back soon for the most exhausted royal wardrobe in Europe this week, the one in the Swedish Royal Palace which has been very well used in the last seven days and we've not even hit the wedding yet.
