It's a tradition that usually marks the end of the public part of Spain's royal summer holidays and this year it took place on a perfect sunlit evening. King Felipe was joined by his wife and mother, Spain's two queens. for a reception at the Almudaina Palace on Mallorca before they walked into the sunset of this summer break to get ready for private holidays.

The King and Queen of Spain arrived at the palace in the early evening with plenty of time to meet some of the crowds who had gathered outside to see them.

They were joined for the official welcome by Queen Sofia who has had a busy couple of weeks on Mallorca as she gathered all her grandchildren around her for some family time.

Over the past ten days we've seen plenty of King Juan Carlos and the Infanta Elena as well but this reception was focused on Felipe, Letizia and Sofia.

The event usually takes place at the end of the public part of their holidays on Mallorca which this year have included the usual photocall as well as several appearances on the water as well as an impromptu family meal out by the water.

Felipe, Letizia and Sofia welcomed representatives of the local authorities as well as members of society to the palace for drinks and chatter.

And then it was off into the sunset for the royal trio. The summer holidays this year for Spain's royals have been dominated by politics with Felipe on stand by to head back to Madrid for ongoing talks between the political parties about forming an administration. There are reports that King Felipe will be off on a private break with his wife and children soon leaving this summer's evening as a finale to the public holidays of Spain's royals.
