Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway shared this photo of her and her husband to mark their wedding anniversary on Instagram
William and Kate heading to Canada was Kensington Palace's most liked Instagram share of August 2016. To make an announcement about the long awaited tour, the royals used a photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as newlyweds on their visit in 2011 and won themselves 79,500 likes by the end of August which makes this the most liked Instagram photo on any royal account this month.
The Olympics provided plenty of Instagram moments for Europe's royals and the moment that King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia met Sweden's gold medal winner, Jenny Rissveds, ended up as the most popular they shared. This photo of royal congratulations hit 13,800 likes in August.
The Danish Royal Household is pretty new to Instagram but it's more than making up for time with some great photos shared already. Most popular in August was a snap of Crown Prince Frederik celebrating in Rio with the gold medal winning handball team. You have to look closely but there is a king in waiting in there showing that it might not always be the royals that get the likes on a royal Instagram account.
Did you really expect to read that Princess Anne, the Princess Royal was an Instagram star in August 2016? Probably not but photos of the Queen's only daughter, shared to mark her 66th birthday on August 15th, became the most popular images for two royal Instagram accounts. One is already a modern classic - the Royal Family used the portrait of Anne with her mum taken by Annie Liebovitz for the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations earlier this year and scored over 30,000 likes in just two weeks.
Clarence House went vintage on us for Anne's birthday with a snap of her and big brother, Prince Charles, both looking very cheeky. It took in over 4,000 likes in August - a big number on the Clarence House account which tends to score low in Instagram likes.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit's snap of her with Crown Prince Haakon Magnus, shared on their 15th wedding anniversary on August 25th, was easily the most popular of her photos with over 14,000 likes in just a few days, But when you have a personal account then you can share more relaxed images and the Crown Princess of Norway also gave us an insight into her royal life. This cute snap of her with her family on a day out isn't just a portrait of royal togetherness. Look around them and you'll see people taking their photograph while others stop and look. Images are a major part of the royal story in the 21st century and Instagram allows the courts to tell the story their way too. This image from Mette-Marit sums it up perfectly - a royal perspective on the perspective of the royals -
