The Royal Wardrobe: August's summer seven

The Duchess of Cambridge in a standout summer look from August 2016

Summer holidays means two things when it comes to the Royal Wardrobe. One, not as many appearances and two, a lot of casual clothes. But putting that aside, August 2016 still produced some standout summer looks so as the month comes to an end here are seven times we all went wow for outfits from the Royal Wardrobe.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is picking up where she left off at the start of the summer holidays by totally owning royal fashion. This cream lace two piece suit, worn for the celebrations for the 825th anniversary of the city of Glostrup, is picture perfect while the cream fascinator at the back of her neat updo is about as stylish as they come. Mary is still owning it and then some.

Eugenie of York was beset with wedding rumours but while she ignored murmurs of marriage in August she did do one fairytale princess thing and that was wear this dress. The study in pink was chosen for a shoot for Harper's Bazaar magazine and this royal cover girl totally wowed with this wardrobe pick. From the flounce of the skirt to the fabulous flowers, this is a dream of a dress that will easily make a 2016 rundown every day of the week.

Queen Letizia of Spain chose this on trend print dress for the annual reception for the authorities on Mallorca at the start of the month. It's very pretty and the gold sandals and hot pink lipstick set it off to perfection.

Queen Maxima came in with a fashion knockout at the end of August. What's not to love about a paisley print two piece? It looks fab, it's perfect for a day that involved moving from meetings to a conference and it looks about as cool as it gets. And Maxima looks rather jolly.

A very welcome dose of royal recycling came courtesy of the Duchess of Cambridge at the end of August when she rewore the always fabuous LK Bennett blue poppies dress first seen in 2014. Looking as fresh and cool as it did back then, Kate showed that the oldish ones are the best as she knocked her royal fashion rivals sideways in this cracker of a dress.

Princess Marie of Denmark produced a summer sizzler with this simple print dress. The flared skirt adds extra prettiness to an already delicate look but it's the pink wedges that really give this look its winning edge. Elegant, floaty and fun all at the same time. Marvellous from Marie.

Want to know what you will want to wear this autumn? Queen Rania hit the on trend button with this dress at Amman Design Week. There are flounces, there is patchwork, there is pastel, there's a bit of Victoriana and there is one stand out look that just works completely.

  1. I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence.
