Dad had already had a chance to take in the atmosphere of the Olympics and mum had had a pretty good time on her arrival in Rio too. So it was only fair that Willem-Alexander and Maxima's three princesses got a chance for some summer Games fun too. Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariana have arrived in Rio and they're thoroughly enjoying it.

The three princesses arrived in Rio over the weekend as the Games really got into full swing. King Willem-Alexander had made a solo trip to Brazil at the start of the Olympics for the opening ceremony and meetings in his role as a member of the IOC.  He met athletes and watched several events but as he stepped into the winter sunshine of Rio with his family, the royal action really got started.

First, he enjoyed some catch up time with his wife, Queen Maxima, with the two looking very loved up as they snuggled their way through a swimming final on Saturday.

Then it was family time as their girls joined them to celebrate with gold medal winner Dorian van Rijsselberghe to celebrate his victory on the water.

The Dutch royal family will spend a while longer in Rio before returning to the Netherlands as August winds to an end. Their schedule for the autumn is already looking pretty packed with a State Visit lined up for Willem-Alexander and Maxima in October and November when they will travel to Australia and New Zealand. But for now their latest big trip away is all about sport as the Dutch Royal Family support their athletes in Rio.
