A royal start to the school year

The first day of class can be nerve wracking enough but when there's a royal guest in the room, the pressure is even greater. Pupils turning up to school in Almeria had a very special visitor as they marked the official start of the new academic year as Queen Letizia joined in the celebrations there.

The opening of the school year was given the royal seal of approval at the Gines Morata academy in Almeria. When Letizia took her own daughters back to class the day before, things were rather subdued. On this official opening, there was quite a crowd waiting to get classes started again.

Letizia visited several parts of the school including classes for pupils with special needs as well as lessons for 4, 7 and 9 and 10 year olds.

There was also a visit to the library as well as a chance to chat with the people making up the advisory board at the school including teachers and pupils.

Letizia spent time talking to the pupils, joining in their lessons and giving high fives. There seemed to be a lot of high fives.

The official start to the school year marks a return to official engagements for the Queen of Spain who has also held a series of engagements this week. It's a right royal beginning all round.
