Letizia comes over all shy as she's wished a happy birthday on a night out in Madrid

When you're a queen, birthdays tend towards the classy. As Letizia of Spain turned 44, there were no exceptions to that regal rule. The consort of Spain was serenaded on her special day by opera singers with their own version of Happy Birthday.
Letizia and her husband, Felipe VI, spent her birthday evening at the Royal Theatre in Madrid where they saw a premiere of Othello by Verdi.
This version is the curtain raiser for the 2016/7 season at the Royal Theatre and it is a collaboration between the organisation, the English National Opera and the Royal Opera of Stockholm.
The special birthday song for Letizia came at the end of act two and ended with an almost shy smile from the royal box by the Queen of Spain. She and her husband enjoyed the opera and got a chance to meet many of those involved in the Royal Theatre.
Felipe and Letizia are well known for their more informal nights out in Madrid - they are often photographed on a Friday evening trip to the cinema or enjoyinga spot of dinner in the city. There may well be another birthday outing before the week is out after the grandeur of an operatic serenade.
