A night at the football for Spain's royals

King Felipe VI of Spain and the heir to his throne, Princess Leonor, cheer on Atletico Madrid

It's not her first football engagement but on April 27th, Princess Leonor surprised a lot of people by heading to the Champions League semi final between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich. The heir to the throne of Spain walked into the Calderon Stadium with her father to a huge round of applause and settled down to watch the game.

Felipe and Leonor enjoy the football on a chilly night in Madrid

Leonor showed how much she loves the game when Spain's victorious national team brought the most famous trophy in global footbal to the Zarzuela Palace a few years ago and the then second in line to the throne seemed unwilling to hand back the World Cup.

In the chill of a Madrid evening, Leonor was just as excited by the beautiful game, sitting forward in her seat and following every moment of the game with her proud dad at her side talking her through the match.

Leonor seemed to love her night out at the football with dad, King Felipe VI

And we may well get to see this father/ daughter football act again when Real Madrid host Manchester City in Spain's capital in the upcoming second leg of the other semi-final. And if both Spanish teams make it to the final, Leonor may well get a trip to Milan to see the two sides battle it out for another famous football trophy
