Prince Alexander of Sweden

The baby son of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia has been named Alexander. He has been given the title of Duke of Sodermanland.  The announcements were made this morning at a special cabinet meeting in the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Proud grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, told the meeting that his fifth grandchild and third grandson would carry the names of Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil.

Crown Princess Victoria, who gave birth to her own son Oscar just six weeks ago, was also at the meeting which took place 36 after the arrival of Prince   .

The little prince is now also Duke of Sodermanland, a title last held by Prince Wilhelm of Sweden, second son of King Gustav V and also a title that once belonged to King Oscar I of Sweden at one time. Sodermanland is on the south east coast of  Sweden.  A Te Deum for Alexander will be held on Friday 22nd April at the Royal Palace.

Prince Alexander of Sweden was born at 6.25pm on April 19th 2016 at the Danderyd Hospital. He is the first child of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia and is fifth in line to his country's throne.  On April 20th he went home with his parents where the little family are now settling down to life together.
