The Royal Wardrobe: flashes of red

There was no missing several of the outfits in the Royal Wardrobe this week as bright red flashed its way across many of the choices. From scarlet coats to spots and flowers of rosy red, there was a real dash of colour to enjoy. Here are five red letter moments from the Royal Wardrobe this week.

Queen Letizia most definitely wore red this week. Her choice for the lunch celebrating the Cervantes Prize for 2015 at the Zarzuela Palace was a complete study in scarlet. We had a red dress, complete with peplum. Then there were the red shoes and the very red lipstick. On this occasion, there was no bag which is probably for the best as that would have tipped the whole balance

The long gold earrings made sure the Queen of Spain was wearing her country's colours for this big event. It's a chic look, once your eyes have adjusted to the brightness.

Queen Rania chose to scatter her red across the centre of her dress this week with embroidered flowers in the colour mixing with white and blue on a black background. The dress was chosen for a UN event on promoting the rights of women and girls around the world. It was subtle and chic and just right for the occasion.

The Countess of Wessex went for a big block of bright colour in her wardrobe choice this week. Sophie recycled her rather fabulous red coat seen at Easter this year when she reopened the Head Office of Girlguiding in London. This time round, the coat was matched with skinny black trousers, a black top and black heels for a smart casual look that takes some beating.

The Duchess of Cambridge went for splashes of red on the dress she wore for a dinner at Kensington Palace with US President, Barack Obama, and his wife, Michelle. The long dress was mostly blue with a blue belt and lots of little spots on the chiffon overlay. But throughout the middle were patches of red which broke up the blue and gave this Kate gown a more textured look.

And we're back to blocks of colour to end this week's Royal Wardrobe. Queen Maxima of the Netherlands chose an eye catching shift in scarlet for a meeting with President Joko Widodo at the Noordeinde Palace. It was bright and elegant and the choice of a simple diamond and pearl brooch as jewellery let the rich jewel colour of the dress shine through. Another winner from Maxima in a week when the Royal Wardrobe was all about red.
