William and Kate touch down in India

Royal Tour India is underway. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have touched down in Mumbai and seven days of engagements are under way. And they started on a serious note, visiting the Taj Palace Hotel to remember those affected by the 2008 terrorist attacks there.

Kate and William went straight to the hotel after arriving in India on a British Airways flights. There was very little rest time in between arrival and the start of their packed schedule and anticipation was very, very, very high as the royal couple stepped out of their car and into the middle of what will be a huge tour for them.

Amidst the excitement, the first stop was sombre and thought provoking. The 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai lasted four days and left 164 people dead. The Taj Mahal Palace hotel was hit by several blasts and as well as laying a wreath in memory of those killed, Kate and William met some of the staff who had helped victims in the aftermath of the attacks.

The couple were given a warm welcome at the hotel and spent a long time chatting to those who work there.

There was, of course, huge anticipation about what Kate would be wearing and her first outfit of #RoyalTourIndia was filled with colour. Her red print McQueen outfit was paired with nude heels and earrings by Cassandra Goad. We got a peplum, we got print and we got a slightly longer skirt with a bit of flare. It was really rather nice.

The couple have a busy day ahead of them (full coverage on the blog) and will attend a cricket match as well as a gala evening as day one continues to unfold.

So Royal Tour India is under way and already promising to be a trip to remember.  And there is a special page all about Kate and William's time in India here.
